villette
Wednesday 12th July
saw Villette take over the Earwax
show and perform an exclusive live acoustic studio session as well as picking
the music for a studio takeover.
Founded
on the Anglian folk circuit in autumn 2003, brothers William and Leigh Robertson
were compelled to form the perfect group; a seductive potion of music, poetry
and romance conspicuously absent from the British scene. Relocating to London,
they found the perfect rhythm section in Gabriel and Monsoon, and Villette were
born. In the short time that the group have been together, they have performed
alongside acts as diverse as The Libertines and Martha Wainwright, at many of
Londons premier underground venues.
Villette attract a devoted fanbase who had craved a group to call their own. A
group who appeal as much to the head as to the heart, who make music to fall in
love with and in love to. An outfit fired as much by the poetry, painting and
passion of the Romantics as by the music of Kate Bush, R.E.M., Simon &
Garfunkel and Sunny Day Real Estate. A quintessential British band with
universal appeal.
Villette
recall a time when people were besotted with bands; a time when groups
transformed the way that their fans considered their own lives, incorporating
cultural spheres beyond music into a coherent group identity. Only by
transforming the individual can music change the world. However, it often takes
more than just great music to light the fuse. It requires a vision, encapsulated
in performance and aesthetic, in lyrical content and in conversation. Villette
offer you the complete package. Welcome to our world.
